Meet the Members of Uncommon Ground:

ELLIS WENG
Hi. I am Ellis Weng, a Master's student in Cornell University, and I am interested in studying what affects language use in technological settings. Welcome to our blog! I hope that you will find the topics on this blog interesting and thought-provoking. I think it's pretty important to let our readers know who the writers are. I am interested in social media and cool ideas for websites. Also, I like to play a lot of sports. I go bowling, play squash, and racquetball several times a week. Enjoy our blog and enjoy your stay!

JESSIE COBB
I am an Economics major, Information Science minor.  I am from the Boston area and will be returning after graduation to work at a consulting company. I have only taken one other comm class, Comm 2450, but really enjoyed it.  This semester seems like it should be interesting as well! These days I seem to spend my time looking forward to warmer weather when everyone is outside hiking, playing in parks, or just sitting outside CTB.

CHRISTINE NELSON
I am a senior film major & communication minor at Cornell University interested in language use in the media and its effects (among other things).  Home is currently in Princeton NJ, but after graduation I'll be road tripping out to Los Angeles, where I look forward to never experiencing below freezing winters ever again.  Thank you, Ithaca.  My goal as of now is to become a producer or editor for film or television, but who knows where Hollywood will take me.

MERYL GABELER
Hello! I'm a senior communication major and applied economics and management minor at Cornell. I'm from Westchester County, NY. I'm particularly interested in persuasive language used in marketing. I recently started a company, Anjolie Ayurveda, with my mother. We import all-natural, handmade, Ayurvedic soaps from India. I love going on trail runs around Ithaca, enjoying the beautiful scenery. I too, get excited when the temperature hits the 30 degree mark-heat wave, anyone?

EMILY GETTY
After a year of gaining experience in the world of private sector work, I have journeyed back to Cornell as a graduate student in the Master's International Program in International Agriculture and Rural Development. Currently, I am researching the use of information and communication technologies by microfinancial institutions in emerging markets. I will be leaving my home state of New York on June 8, 2010 and joining the Peace Corps in Moldova to gain experience in the field and hopefully polish off my thesis. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication from Cornell University. Also, I must confess, I am a travel addict and constantly wish to understand people, customs and cultures unknown to me. Oh, and this picture of me was taken at the River Liffey in Dublin, Ireland over fall break.  :o)
